Charming Mid-Century Villa Renovation
When our client purchased his first home, he knew exactly what he wanted to preserve—the charm and character of this beautiful Eltham villa. With a genuine love of mid-century architecture and timeless design, the brief was to create a home that respected its history while bringing it into modern living.
Before we became involved, the client had already selected a warm stone-look floor tile, which runs throughout the home. This became the foundation for the design palette, influencing every material and finish that followed.

Rethinking the Kitchen
The existing kitchen layout felt enclosed and disconnected from the living space, creating a barrier between the heart of the home and the surrounding rooms. Rather than simply replacing cabinetry within the same footprint, we completely reimagined the layout to improve the home's flow and functionality. By opening the kitchen, we were able to incorporate a generous pantry and create a built-in seating area that acts as a cosy breakfast nook. With the client already having a large deck designed for entertaining, this smaller dining space provides the perfect everyday setting for morning coffee or casual meals without overwhelming the room.
Warm Materials with Refined Details
Material selection played a significant role in achieving the home's sophisticated yet inviting feel. For the kitchen and laundry, we chose Florentine Walnut cabinetry, introducing warmth and texture that beautifully complements the existing flooring while remaining true to the home's mid-century influences. The benchtops are finished in Neolith Taj Mahal sintered stone. Using a 12mm profile allowed us to achieve a refined, elegant aesthetic that feels light and contemporary while showcasing the natural beauty of the stone. Throughout the home, stainless steel was carefully selected for hardware, fixtures and accessories, providing a subtle industrial edge that balances the warmth of the timber and stone finishes.
A Home That Reflects Its Owner
Every decision throughout this renovation was guided by the client's appreciation for thoughtful design and authentic materials. The result is a home that feels connected, functional and timeless honouring the villa's original character while creating spaces perfectly suited to modern living. This Eltham renovation is a wonderful example of how considered planning, quality materials and clever design can transform a first home into a space that feels uniquely personal and built to be enjoyed for years to come.
