Ensuite and Laundry
This ensuite began as a tight, challenging space with very limited opportunity to change the layout. Our clients had two non-negotiables from the start, a double-bowl vanity and a heated towel rail. With these priorities in mind, we focused on creating a space that felt brighter, more refined and visually expansive.
The colour palette was inspired by two striking Bromley artworks hanging in the adjoining master bedroom, both featuring a deep, intense blue. We knew we wanted to bring this feeling into the ensuite, creating a sense of connection and calm.
To keep the room feeling open, we selected a stone-look tile in a lapato finish to help bounce light throughout the space. Warmth was added through beautiful Tassie Oak accents, balancing the cooler tones and giving the room a soft, contemporary feel. A shadow-line detail at the ceiling enhances the illusion of height, helping the compact footprint feel more generous.
Behind the vanity, a half-height feature wall showcases the curved tapware against the textural stone tile — a subtle focal point that elevates the entire space. Being an ensuite, we leaned into a cooler palette to create a private, retreat-like atmosphere where the client can unwind and disconnect from the world.
The laundry received a complete glow-up from its original dated cabinetry and limited storage. As with many Eltham homes, the surrounding slate flooring influenced the design direction. Because the slate meets the laundry at the threshold, choosing a floor tile that complemented it as a working zone was essential.
Warmth was reintroduced through rough-cut Tassie Oak cabinetry, which worked beautifully with the existing window and door frames. The splashback tile draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape, bringing a hint of the outdoors in, classic Eltham character.
Storage was maximised wherever possible, transforming the laundry into a multifunctional space that also acts as a small butler’s pantry to support the nearby kitchen. The result is a practical, stylish and seamlessly integrated utility area that now fully supports modern family living.
