Warmth – Texture – Eclectic

When our client approached us to renovate the bathroom in their studio apartment, the existing space felt tired and no longer functioned well for everyday use. The brief was to create a brighter, more functional bathroom while introducing character, warmth, and personality.

While the overall layout remained the same, we made a few thoughtful adjustments to improve usability. The shower was slightly enlarged to create a more comfortable space, and the door orientation was changed to allow for potential additional storage in the future — a small change that offers greater flexibility as the space evolves.

Our client is an artist, so colour, texture, and individuality were at the forefront of the design approach. The bathroom is currently used by their daughter, who was encouraged to be part of the selection process and choose elements that resonated with her personal style. She was naturally drawn to heritage-style tapware and detailed joinery, which helped shape the direction of the space.

To introduce warmth and texture in a way that feels unique for a bathroom, we began exploring timber-look tiles. After reviewing a range of tones, we selected a rich walnut finish that adds depth and a natural warmth to the room.

To contrast the timber tones and bring a sense of boldness to the design, we paired it with a striking teal large-format tile in the shower. This not only creates a strong visual statement but also offers a practical benefit, as the larger format makes cleaning easier with fewer grout lines.

Continuing the green palette, we chose a handmade-look tile for the splashback. The subtle variation and organic texture add another layer of visual interest and reinforce the eclectic feel of the space.

All tapware and accessories were selected as statement pieces in a heritage style, finished in rich copper tones. These elements complement the warmth of the walnut tiles while adding a sense of craftsmanship and timelessness.

The end result is a bathroom that feels warm, layered, and full of personality — a rich, textural space that feels both bold and homely. It was an absolute joy to help bring this unique bathroom to life.
